From a small family business in rural Shropshire to a leading British manufacturer, this is the story of Hornsey Steel Panels & Sections Ltd.
From our roots as Hornsey Steels Ltd to the business we are today, here are some of the key moments along the way.
Mark Hornsey founded Hornsey Steels Ltd in Bucknell, Shropshire, beginning what would become a family business spanning more than three decades. Starting small, Mark worked hard to establish the business and built up a loyal customer base manufacturing roofing sheets for the steel trade, construction industry, farming community and general public.
Mark stepped down and handed the baton on to his son, Samuel Hornsey, who took over the running of the growing company. In the years that followed under Samuel's leadership, the business doubled its turnover and customer base, while continuing to offer the same great service and personal touch the company was known for.
For a period, the business traded online as roofing-sheets.co.uk, offering steel roofing sheets, flashings and accessories direct to trade and the general public, alongside the continued growth of the core manufacturing business.
The business rebranded from Hornsey Steels Ltd to Hornsey Steel Panels and Sections Ltd, launching a new website at hspas.co.uk to better reflect the full breadth of the company's growing product range, from profiled sheeting through to purlins, sections and accessories.
On the 1st of October 2024, Hornsey Steel Panels and Sections Ltd moved from our previous site on Bedstone Road into a brand new, purpose built 2,325 square metre manufacturing facility at The Old Coal Yard, Station Road, Bucknell. The move marked a major milestone, allowing the company to expand production capability and diversify its product range.
The new facility houses highly advanced equipment, including a Thalmann TD200 6.4m double folder, a Thalmann TDZ200 4.2m single folder, a CIDAN 4.1m shear guillotine and a CIDAN Stackmaster. "These machines are a game-changer for us, significantly boosting efficiency and productivity," said Managing Director Samuel Hornsey, following a visit to Thalmann's facility in Switzerland ahead of the move.

Building on our manufacturing expertise, MasterClad Systems Ltd was launched as a sister company, operating from its own dedicated trade counter in Worcester. MasterClad Systems Ltd offers the same trusted quality and service as Hornsey Steel Panels & Sections Ltd, with a focus the manufacture and supply of the MasterBar Roof & Wall Spacer System and wider cladding solutions for trade customers in the Midlands region and beyond.
Now employing more than 30 people from our new Bucknell facility, Hornsey Steel Panels and Sections Ltd continues to evolve - manufacturing and supplying a comprehensive range of profiled roof and wall cladding, purlins & sections, the MasterBar Roof & Wall Spacer System and a full range of accessories, all made with pride in Britain. We remain a family run business at heart, anchored by the same values that guided us from the very beginning.
